RESUMO

Graphene is widely used in heat dissipation, owing to its inherently high in-plane thermal conductivity and excellent mechanical properties. However, its poor cross-plane thermal conductivity limits its use in some electronic applications. The electron distribution of graphene and the interaction with the base material can be greatly altered by introducing F, the most electronegative element, giving fluorinated graphene oxide (FG) with a high thermal conductivity. Herein, FG is prepared by grafting F atoms onto the surface of graphene oxide in a low-temperature solid-phase reaction with poly(vinylidene fluoride) as a fluorine source. This method can effectively avoid the use of dangerous substances such as HF and F2. The FG dispersion and aqueous poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) solution are sequentially vacuum-filtered to obtain the FG/PVA composite film. After natural drying and hot-pressing, the thermal conductivity of the N-FG/PVA film is enhanced by the hydrogen bond between F of FG and the hydroxyl group of PVA. The in-plane and cross-plane thermal conductivity of an N-FG/PVA film containing 10.4 wt % FG are 7.13 and 1.42 W m-1 k-1, respectively. The film has a tensile strength of 60 MPa and an elongation at a break of 28%, which is promising for the thermal management of flexible electronic devices.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Very limited empirical research has been done on operational flexibility management in the healthcare industry, especially in hospital settings. This study aimed to propose a model of the effects of operational flexibility on hospital performance through management capability and employee engagement as mediating variables. METHODS: The proposed model is validated through an empirical study among 480 clinical and administrative staff from five hospitals in Jordan. Structural equation modeling and confirmatory factor analysis were the main techniques used to validate the model and examine the hypotheses. RESULTS: Operational flexibility was demonstrated to have a positively significant impact on hospital performance, management capability, and employee engagement. Employee engagement was demonstrated to positively impact hospital performance. Management capability had a significant result on hospital performance without having a clear impact. In addition, management capability and employee engagement played a major role as partial mediating effects between operational flexibility and hospital performance, and there is a role for employee engagement as a partial mediating effect between management capability and hospital performance. CONCLUSION: Significant progress has been achieved in hospital management, especially in terms of operational flexibility, management capability, and staff engagement.

RESUMO

Changes in digital technology have brought about new opportunities in the field of financial poverty alleviation in China, and mobile payment as a new digital financial model is important in helping families to lift themselves out of poverty effectively and prevent a return to poverty. This paper examines the impact of mobile payment on household poverty vulnerability and the mechanism of action using the China Household Finance Survey (CHFS) 2017 microsurvey data. After adopting the IVprobit model and a series of robustness tests, we found: (1) mobile payment significantly negatively impacts household poverty vulnerability; (2) the mechanism analysis indicates that promoting entrepreneurship and improving risk management capabilities are the main channels through which mobile payment mitigates household poverty vulnerability; (3) household entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial survival significantly reduce the probability of poverty vulnerability; and (4) the probit regression analysis explores how mobile payment has a greater negative impact on poverty vulnerability among low-income, homeless, and relatively backward households in rural or western areas. This work contributes to the literature on the use of electronic communication technology to eradicate poverty and on inclusive finance, providing vital results for other countries to use as an example.

RESUMO

Given the omnipresence and profoundness of the ongoing pandemic from the Coronavirus disease 2019, its potential spread can be minimized through social distancing. However, this practice causes increasing difficulties and undesirability of traditional transactions or interactions. Accordingly, various manufacturing firms around the world have become more committed not only to accelerating the development of digital technologies, but also to integrating them with existing processes. In this study, we address an important issue of how manufacturing firms can adapt to the ever-changing volatility and unpredictable global business environment, and achieve sustainable growth by developing a strong supply chain management capability. Two specific interrelated research questions are considered: (1) How do supply chain management capabilities contribute to firm environmental performance; and (2) What are the sources of such capabilities? In so doing, we integrate various forms of digital innovation into a supply chain management capability logic to explore their antecedents and consequences. By using survey data from 272 manufacturing firms in China, we examine the relationship between three key forms of digital innovation (i.e., product, platform, and service) and firm environmental performance. Results show that digital product, platform, and service innovations all have positive contributions to supply chain management capability. In turn, supply chain management capabilities have a partial mediating effect between digital product innovation and firm environmental performance, but a full mediating effect between digital platform and service innovations and firm environmental performance.

RESUMO

Many organizations are increasingly investing in building dynamic capabilities to gain competitive advantage. New products play an important role in gaining competitive advantage and can significantly boost organizational performance. Although new product development (NPD) is widely recognized as a potentially vital source of competitive advantage, organizations face challenges in terms of developing the right antecedents or capabilities to influence NPD performance. Our research suggests that organizations should invest in building alliance management capability (AMC), big data analytics capability (BDAC) and information visibility (IV) to achieve their desired NPD success. Informed by the dynamic capabilities view of the firm (DCV) we have stated seven research hypotheses. We further tested our hypotheses using 219 usable respondents gathered using a pre-tested instrument. The hypotheses were tested using variance based structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM). The results of our study paint an interesting picture. Our study makes some significant contribution to the DCV and offers some useful directions to practitioners engaged in NPD in the big data analytics era. We demonstrate that AMC and BDAC are lower-order dynamic capabilities and that AMC has a positive and significant influence on BDAC. In turn, AMC and BDAC influence NPD under the moderating influence of IV. Ours is one of the first studies to empirically establish an association among three distinct dynamic capabilities which are often considered in isolation: AMC, BDAC and NPD. Our findings support emergent views on dynamic capabilities and their classification into various orders. Lastly, we provide empirical evidence that information visibility acts as a contingent variable to both AMC and BDAC effects on NPD. We end our paper by outlining some limitations of our study and by offering useful future research directions.

RESUMO

Construction and demolition waste (C&DW) has become part of the largest waste stream globally and many cities are facing the shortage of management capability to treat C&DW. These cities seek to transport their C&DW to their neighbor cities for recycling or landfilling, which is recognized as the cross-regional management of C&DW. However, there were few studies to investigate the mechanism of cross-regional mobility in C&DW field. This study developed a model to evaluate the self-fulfillment degree of C&DW management capability at regional level based on the Triple-balance theory. Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) was selected as the study case, and the data was collected through on-site surveys, expert interviews, and desktop surveys. The results showed that the self-fulfillment degree of C&DW management capability of the cities, such as Guangzhou, Zhuhai, Foshan, Dongguan, Jiangmen, and Zhaoqing was high, which meant these cities could well manage the C&DW generated within the regions under current situation. The self-fulfillment degree of management capability of Macao, Huizhou, and Zhongshan was evaluated as medium; while the indicators of Hong Kong and Shenzhen fell into low category, which meant they needed to transport surplus C&DW to other cities for further treatment. The research is significant as it provides an innovative evaluation model considering the cross-regional mobility for C&DW management performance assessment. Besides, the findings could assist the waste management sectors to plan the C&DW treatment facilities in GBA, while other cities could also benefit from this study regarding to the cross-regional mobility management of C&DW.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) is widely used in chemotherapy due to its minimal complications and simple wound care. This study explored the effects of tai chi on catheterrelated complications, catheter management ability, and quality of life in tumor patients with PICC at the intermission of chemotherapy. METHODS: This study was an open parallel trial. A total of 98 patients with malignant tumors who underwent long-term chemotherapy with PICC were randomly divided into an observation group (49 cases) and a control group (49 cases). The control group received grip strength exercise for 3 months, while the observation group received 24 simplified tai chi exercises. The coagulation function, thrombosis rate, self-management ability, and quality of life were compared between the two groups before and after the intervention. RESULTS: After the intervention, the activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT) and prothrombin time (PT) in the observation group were longer than those in the control group, while fibrinogen (FIB) was lower than that in the control group (all P<0.05). After the intervention, the total score of self-management ability of the observation group was higher than that of the control group (t=2.038, P=0.047), and the scores of exercises ability and quality of daily life with catheters were significantly increased (all P<0.05). In terms of quality of life, scores of role-physical (RP), social functioning (SF), mental health (MH) and role-emotional (RE) in the observation group were higher than those in the control group (all P<0.05), while there was no statistical difference between the bodily pain (BP) scores of the observation group and the control group (P>0.05). The incidence of venous thrombosis in the observation group was lower than that in the control group, the difference was statistically significant ( χ 2 =4.439, P=0.035). CONCLUSIONS: Tai chi can prevent PICC thrombosis, reduce PICC-related complications, improve selfmanagement ability, and improve quality of life in at-home patients with long-term PICC.

RESUMO

Many studies on the significance of knowledge management (KM) in the business world have been performed in recent years. Public sector KM is a research area of growing importance. Findings show that few authors specialize in the field and there are several obstacles to developing a cohesive body of literature. In order to examine their effect of the knowledge management capability [which consists of knowledge infrastructure capability (KIC) and knowledge process capability (KPC)] and organizational effectiveness (OE), this study conducted structural equation modeling to test the hypotheses with 302 questionnaires of Taipei Water Department staffs in Taiwan. In exploring the model developed in this study, the findings show that there exists a significant relationship between KPC and OE, while KIC and OE are insignificant. These results are different from earlier findings in the literature. Furthermore, this research proposed organizational commitment (OC) as the mediator role. The findings suggest that only OC has significant mediating effects between KPC and OE, whereas this is not the case for KIC and OE. It is noteworthy that the above findings inspired managers, in addition to construct the knowledge infrastructure more than focus on social media tools on the Internet, which engage knowledge workers in "peer-to-peer" knowledge sharing across organizational and company boundaries. The results are likely to help organizations (particularly public utilities) sharpen their knowledge management strategies. Academic and practical implications were drawn based on the findings.
